It's now just shy of a week since I arrived in Korea. In all honesty, it feels much longer than that, not in a bad way, don't get me wrong, it's been a good week and every day is better than the last. but experiencing so much new stuff everyday and being so busy teaching, it feels like a lot longer than 5 days.
For everyone that I haven't talked to yet, I'll start with the basics to bring you up to speed. I live in an apartment on the 5th floor of a building right across from school; yeah, it's small, but it comes with an ocean view, also i don't pay rent, so.... The food has been awesome, I have yet to eat a meal that I didn't enjoy...I also have yet to cook a meal on my own, it's basically cheaper to eat out for every meal than make it for yourself, so I've just been eating out, except for breakfast, either in the school cafeteria, or the restaurants at the bottom of the apartment building, mostly. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty glad that Alvin is here to help translate, otherwise I would be seriously boned at meal times. I'm not sure why I didn't expect it, but there aren't any pictures or translations on menus here...The closest thing I came to ordering for myself was going to a small restaurant near school and placing a random x on the order card, which actually turned out pretty well for me. It also helps that there are very few things that I don't enjoy eating, so I wasn't really worried about the outcome. And now the reason I'm here (sort of), teaching. I'll admit, when I walked into my first class after a solid 30 and change hours of travelling (and almost no sleep mind you), I was a bit lost. But after a week of class, finally getting all my textbooks, and getting familiar with the whole process, things are going better every day. In all honesty, it's really enjoyable, I have a lot of fun teaching. The students are all pretty nice, and there's an enthusiasm for learning that I did not expect.
Before I left, I don't know how many times people would tell me "you're going to be the tallest person there," or "the girls are going to think you're cute." It actually got pretty old, but now that I'm here, I'm finding it's actually pretty true, and I won't lie, I don't mind it at all. Not trying to sound like an asshat, but that's just how it is. Someone actually did say I looked like Jude Law (hence the title, and no, i don't see a resemblance), or very frequently they say "you look like a famous actor". The best one yet was when I was walking down the street yesterday and a group of schoolgirls yelled out from across the street "Hello! You're very handsome!" It's not a bad situation at all. Now if only that would happen at home walking down mill avenue....
Eventually there will be pictures on here. Due in equal parts to laziness and technical difficulties, I just haven't gotten around to it yet, but soon, soon....

You can always ask your sister for some teaching tips. I am glad that you are exploring some great eating places for us to check out for when we are there.
